Kanakavalli Saris Stills
Drawing from the Ekavalli Foundation’s recent ‘Painted From Memory’ photographic exhibit by Uma Damle, Kanakavalli curates a range of exquisite heirloom kanjivarams that capture the emotions depicted in the imagery, reflecting the spirit of the photo essay – the coming together of the past and the present, the familiar and the exotic.
The imagery combines elements of South Indian tradition and European influence, beautifully depicted using the chiaroscuro technique in which the objects appear to be emerging out of the darkness. The sari featured here in pale teal green is dotted with chakram and peacock motifs in zari, complemented by a traditional border and pallu.
